Facilities at the Cerro Coso campuses include individual student computers, flat screen monitors, and CD and DVD burners. Film and flat bed scanners are also available.
 
Housing for Mammoth Workshops 2006
~ $30 per night per person.
~ Apartment-style lodging, 3 bedroom, 3 bath units with fully equipped, furnished kitchens and cable TV. No daily maid service available. Beds outfitted with linens and a bath towel is provided.
~ Each person will have a twin bed in a bedroom that sleeps 2 people. (Units will be booked as demand dictates with 6 participants in each unit.) Units will be set up as all male and all female roomate situations.
~ Those interested should call 1.877.934.3717 between 9am and 6pm. Reserve a space at this time with a credit card.
~ Those seeking more privacy can rent a whole room for $60/night however there is not enough availability to rent entire units this way.
~ When registering for housing, reference yourself as "Photography Institute" participant.

Class - Fall 2006 enrollment
Introduction to Photography and Digital Darkroom
(Listed under “Art” in the college catalog.)
3 Credit Units Meets twice/week starting late August 2006. Each class is 3 hrs.
Fall 2006 Mammoth Campus, Spring 2007 Bishop Campus    
Description: Topics to be covered include use of the camera controls for creative effects, exposure techniques, compositional elements, and the role that light plays in affecting the photograph. Students will also learn the procedures necessary to convert images to photo enlargements utilizing the computer including Adobe photo shop and the inkjet printer. The class will also survey the history of photography and its affect on photography today.
 

 
THE ART OF SEEING - LANDSCAPE WORKSHOPS

Descripton: This course covers the craft and aesthetic considerations of landscape photography in a workshop setting. Students will participate in daily field trips, where they will have the opportunity to practice the craft elements of photography discussed in class and to explore a personal approach to landscape photography. Topics to be covered include recognizing how different light affects the photographed image and controlling or modifying light to achieve a specific result. Some time will also be devoted to other elements of landscape photography, including element of composition, use of flash and close-up equipment.

The phases I, II, and III elements of the workshop are designed to concurrently allow students to participate in the workshops at different skill levels. Each phase will explore different techniques utilized in landscape photography and depending on your experience you can participate in one of the three phases during the workshop and a different phase at a future workshop.

Phase 1: Basic landscape techniques.
Phase II: Techniques for using split-neutral density filters.
Phase III: LIght modifying techniques (fill-flash & use of reflectors) and use of close-up equipment.

Class Dates: The class meets on Thursday, July 7th from 5:30 to 8:30 for a lecture, orientation, and introductions. Photo shoots will occur on Friday and Saturday from dawn to 8:30 followed by a lecture and photo critique from 10:30 to 1:30, a second photo shoot will occur from 4:00 until dark. Sunday, July 10th, a final lecture and critique will be given from 9:30 until 12:30.

Possible field trip locations include; Little Lakes Valley, McGee Creek, Saddlebag Lake region,
Toulome Meadows, and Mono Lake
.
Hiking up to 4 miles round trip will be a part of this workshop.

*If unable to register by June 30, 2006, enroll at the first workshop meeting.

Class Dates: The class meets on Thursday, Sept. 21st from 5:30 to 8:30 for a lecture, orientation, and introductions. Photo shoots will occur on Friday and Saturday from dawn to 8:30 followed by a lecture and photo critique from 10:30 to 1:30, a second photo shoot will occur from 4:00 until dark. Sunday, Sept. 24th, a final lecture and critique will be given from 9:30 until 12:30.

Possible field trip locations include; McGee Creek, Rock Creek, Sherwin Creek, June Lake and Lee Vining areas, and a sunset on Mono Lake. Minimal hiking.

Class Dates: The class meets on Thursday, Oct. 5th from 5:30 to 8:30 for a lecture, orientation, and introductions. Photo shoots will occur on Friday and Saturday from dawn to 8:30 followed by a lecture and photo critique from 10:30 to 1:30, a second photo shoot will occur from 4:00 until dark. Sunday, Oct. 8th, a final lecture and critique will be given from 9:30 until 12:30.

Possible field trip locations include; Bishop Creek Drainage including North, South, and Subrina Lake, Bishop Creek, and a sunset in the Bristlecone Pines. Minimal hiking.
 
Equipment & Supplies
Students will need an adjustable camera, film or digital, that allows manually setting the shutter, aperture, and focus. Those students shooting film will need a minimum of four rolls of 36 exposure (E-6) slide film. A tripod is also required and a polarizing filter highly recommended. Those students taking phase II will require a split neutral density filter, and those taking phase III will require close-up lens, a reflector/diffuser kit, and electronic flash.
Suggested Personal Items
Layered clothing for temperatures ranging from 32 degrees to 90 degrees, water, hiking boots, sunscreen, hat, mosquito repellent.
